Silk and Velvet Botanical Brooches | 2 April 2027

$220.00

Creating wearable botanical treasures from silk, velvet and thread.

Friday 2 April 2027 | Bella Fabrics | 9.30am - 3.30pm | $220

There is something quite magical about a flower made entirely by hand. Join textile artist Anna Victoria for a day of creative exploration as you create a sculptural botanical brooch using beautiful silks, hand-dyed velvets, embroidery and delicate beadwork.

Inspired by old-world florals and the beauty of the natural world, these flowers have a character all of their own. Soft, dimensional and full of texture, each piece combines traditional hand-stitching with wirework and embellishment to create a little piece of wearable art.

For 2027, Anna has created a new collection of botanical brooch designs, with fresh floral forms and details to explore. Whether you're joining for the first time or returning to make another piece, there will be new techniques to discover and new ways to work with silk, velvet, wire and embellishment. Previous students will have the opportunity to build on what they've learnt and create a brooch that feels entirely different from their first.

Throughout the day, Anna will guide you through the process of shaping and stitching dimensional petals, adding delicate embroidery and beadwork, and sculpting leaves with wire to give your finished flower its own natural movement and personality.

You'll work with a beautiful selection of materials, including sumptuous silks, hand-dyed silk velvets, glass beads, embroidery threads and sculpting wire. With a choice of colours and materials to explore, you'll be encouraged to develop your own palette and make thoughtful creative choices along the way.

This is a wonderful opportunity to spend a day working slowly with your hands, discovering new techniques and watching a collection of simple materials transform into something quite extraordinary.

  • How to shape and construct dimensional silk and velvet petals.

  • Techniques for adding embroidery and decorative beadwork.

  • Ways to combine colour, texture and embellishment to create a unique botanical piece.
