The Keepers: Cloth Doll Necklaces | 4 April 2027
A day of slow stitching, beautiful materials and wearable art.
4 April 2027 | Bella Fabrics | 9.30am - 3.30pm | $220
Join textile artist Anna Victoria for a day of creative exploration as you make your own cloth doll necklace: a small, character-filled companion assembled from beautiful fabrics, vintage treasures, embroidery and thread.
Inspired by the stories held within old textiles and the charm of handmade keepsakes, these little figures are more than just jewellery. Each one has its own personality, shaped by the fabrics you choose, the details you add and the small creative decisions that bring it to life.
Anna will guide you through the process of constructing your doll, sharing how she creates the soft body, forms the arms and legs, and brings the figure to life with a painted wooden bead face and an assortment of decorative details. You'll also learn how Anna paints the doll faces yourself, with the opportunity to practise this technique and create a character of your own. (If you'd prefer, you're also welcome to use one of Anna's own hand-painted faces, lovingly prepared especially for the workshop.)
You'll have a beautiful collection of vintage and contemporary fabrics, laces, linens, trims, beads and embellishments to explore. As you work, you'll be encouraged to follow your instincts, play with unexpected combinations and allow your doll's character to emerge naturally.
No two dolls need to be alike. Yours might be a quiet keeper, a wandering spirit, a wild-hearted dreamer or something entirely unexpected.
This is a relaxed and nurturing workshop where there is room to experiment, enjoy the tactile pleasure of working with textiles and create something that feels personal and meaningful.
